Genetic testing can be a complicated process with important implications for you and your family members. These implications should be fully understood before testing takes place. In addition, it is very important that the appropriate genetic test is ordered according the diagnosis in the family. At My Heart Genetics, we do not arrange genetic testing unless a genetic counselling consultation has taken place with a member of our team.

For our service, the cost of genetic counselling and subsequent genetic testing must be self-funded by the patient in the first instance.
The genetic counselling fee is to be paid in full at the point of booking.
The cost of genetic testing is typically paid for once the sample arrives at the laboratory.
In our experience, the cost of genetic testing can occassionally be claimed back but this is very dependent on the terms and conditions of your health insurance policy. We advise contacting your provider for further information before booking.

The cost of a new appointment is £150 for a 60 minute online consultation.
Follow-up appointments (if needed) are charged at £100 for a 30-45 minute consultation.

The price of genetic testing can vary considerably depending on the type of test needed and the possible underlying condition.
As a rough guide, a targeted test for an altered gene that has already been identified in your relative might cost £200-£400 whilst a diagnostic test (looking for the underlying gene causing the condition) can range from £500 to £1500+
-
This depends on your preference. We are happy to issue a result letter by email with no additional charge. If you would prefer to receive your result in a planned follow-up appointment, the charge is £100.

We know that it can be overwhelming to attend genetics consultations alone. One relative or friend is very welcome to attend for support.
If there are multiple family members (3 or more) who require genetic counselling and/or genetic testing, please contact us for further advice.
Please note that if you have been diagnosed with a condition such as cardiomyopathy, you will require genetic testing in the first instance. Your relatives only require genetic testing if a causative gene alteration is found in you.
