Specialist genetic counselling and genetic testing for people with a personal or family history of an inherited cardiac condition

So, what exactly is an inherited cardiac condition?

Once thought to be rare, we now think that inherited cardiac conditions (ICCs) occur in around 1 in 250 people.

An ICC is a condition that is caused by an underyling genetic predisposition, often in the form of a gene that isn’t work as it should do.

Some of the more common types of ICC include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM), Long QT syndrome (LQTS), and Brugada syndrome (BrS).

What do we do?

  • A workspace with a laptop, open notebook with a pen, a tray with a mug, a small bottle, and a vase with flowers on a wooden table near a window.

    Genetic counselling

Expert genetic counselling provided via video consultations from the comfort of your own home. Appointments are often available within 7 to 14 days

  • A simple family tree diagram with symbols for males and females. Squares represent males and circles represent females. Lines connect the symbols to show relationships.

    Family history review

During your consultation a full review and assessment of your family history of cardiac conditions will take place.

  • Close-up of several DNA double helix strands made of small beads, floating against a dark background.

    Cardiac genetic testing

Where appropriate, genetic testing can be arranged. This may be a test to look for the cause of your own diagnosis, or a test to check if you have inherited an altered gene already found in a relative.
